Established in 1985, Black History Ottawa is a non-profit community-based and volunteer-driven organization that works collaboratively with public institutions and community groups to increase awareness, within the national capital region, of the history, culture and contributions of Canadians of African descent to Ottawa and Canada.

We offer educational programs and activities targeting the general population - especially youth, children, families and seniors - focusing on issues such as community development, health, civic participation as well as cultural and racial diversity.

We locate our community events in easily accessible parts of the City of Ottawa, such as community centers, libraries and other public places.

You can play an important part in preserving "the legacy" for future generations by joining Black History Ottawa. Make a difference in what is known about our history and contributions to Canadian society and in the kind of inheritance we leave our children in the future.
